Post Graduate Student Event

Postgraduate students are invited to join the Global Law Enforcement and Public Health Postgraduate day.

Hosted by GLEPHA’s Education Special Interest Group, this FREE full one-day event offers and opportunity for post graduate students to connect, discuss their research, build skills, and gain confidence.

Sessions will include interactive presentations on career pathways, using research and data in practice, presentation excellence and networking with international peers and leading researchers in the field.

Career Accelerator Training

Career Accelerator workshop: helps graduate students gain clarity and confidence in their career direction, whether inside or beyond academia. Through guided reflection, peer discussion, and practical exercises, participants will identify their core strengths, explore meaningful career paths, and practice positioning themselves through short, effective personal pitches. The session also introduces helpful tools and strategies for mapping next steps, building a professional presence, and setting actionable goals. Students leave with greater self-awareness, a clearer sense of direction, and a curated set of resources to keep their momentum going.

Using Research & Data in Policing

Delivered by Assistant Chief Constable Mark Sutherland, Police Scotland

This session offers insights into the impact and application of research at the intersect of policing and public health from the perspective of a police executive leader. There will be an opportunity to reflect on how both policing and health agencies adapt to a changing landscape, with its greater emphasis on evidence-based practice. ACC Sutherland will discuss examples of how research and knowledge exchange can improve policing and public health for the public good.

Optimism Masterclass: Building Grit, Confidence & Positivity

Join us for this informative and interactive session where the speaker will share direct insight from recently completing their second PhD and how they have applied these practices on that recent journey while also with their research which has included NASA, hostage negotiators, and many others.

Delivered by Dr Jeff Thompson, Adjunct Associate Research Scientist in the Psychiatry Department at Columbia University Medical Center/New York State Psychiatric Institute and adjunct instructor at Lipscomb University in the College of Leadership and Public Service.
