The ‘Women, Police and Security: Global Perspectives and Challenges’ event will be the third time that GLEPHA and IAWP have collaborated to deliver an event focused on gender equality, gender-based violence and related issues (Toronto, 2018 and Edinburgh, 2019).
Key themes include, as examples:
- Gender equality, equity and women’s participation in policing and peacekeeping
- Gender-based violence as a public health issue: prevention and responses
- Leadership in complex public health and law enforcement contexts
- Gender and security in diverse contexts, i.e., Eastern Africa and the Pacific Islands
- Technology-facilitated violence against women
Outcomes
- Increased knowledge of ‘what works’ for fostering inclusive workplaces that prioritise gender equality and equity in policing.
- Enhanced collaboration between law enforcement, public health agencies, and community organisations to improve community safety and wellbeing.
- Increased awareness of global examples and case studies on gender and security challenges, highlighting successful interventions.
- Foster global and regional networks for advancing gender equality in policing and security.
- Increase awareness of gender-based violence as a public health crisis and the need for multi-sectoral responses.
Outputs
- A published report on the workshop disseminated by GLEPHA, IAWP and partners
- Presentation of workshop outcomes in a session during the LEPH2025 conference
- An article published in the Journal of Community Safety and Well-Being on the outcomes of the workshop
Audience
